Broker's Comments
Boatshed is pleased to present this listing of a 25m Ferro cement barge/houseboat located in a beautiful Cornish river location.
Hull and decks in good, seaworthy condition. A new 16m by 5m superstructure recently built with quality materials and fully insulated, creating a spacious and light upper living area with views of the river and surrounding countryside.
Below decks offers good headroom and ample space for multiple bedrooms, ensuites, office, utility room, cinema room etc. open plan and ready for fit out to suit requirements.
This houseboat has the rare opportunity to be able to remain in its current location; a riverside berth at Treluggan Boatyard on the river Lynher near Landrake, Cornwall, providing sublime peace and tranquillity.
The surrounding countryside boasts charming villages and towns, and the city of Plymouth is not far away. The mooring is subject to an annual contract with the boatyard and is supplied with metered mains electricity, free water supply, parking for two cars and garden space.
Owned by Treluggan Boatyard, there is the opportunity to have any further works (fit-out, plumbing, electrics) done by the skilled team on site.
Stepping aboard and exploring this vessel, the first thing that strikes you is the sheer size and the thickness of the concrete used in its construction.
The substantial structure on the upper deck, built with the latest high-quality materials, double-glazed doors, windows, and thick insulation, ensures minimal exterior maintenance.
Inside, the barge offers a vast blank canvas, ready to be transformed with the only limit being your imagination. Below decks, the heavily engineered structure is truly impressive. Massive concrete bulkheads and ribs span the vessel, offering endless possibilities for transforming the space.
The hull, a Mulberry Barge is an extraordinary piece of history. Commissioned by the British Government during World War II in the 1940s, this barge was built by Wates-Barrow in Furness. Its mission was to serve as a support supply vessel for the engineering marvel known as the Mulberry Harbour. Constructed in utmost secrecy, the harbour was designed to be floated across the English Channel with the flotilla of ships that formed Operation Overlord, famously known as the D-Day Landings on June 6, 1944.
If you’re seeking a liveaboard project with substantial space in a stunning location, and with the added historical significance of this barge’s role in Britain’s history, please don’t hesitate to contact me to arrange a viewing of this impressive vessel!
