Broker's Comments

Boatshed Wales are delighted to introduce to the market this one off 26 foot, mast head sloop.

"Carefree of Christchurch" is a beautifully constructed and extensively refurbished 26 foot wooden, centre-plate sloop. Construction consists of carvel, mahogany planking over Canadian rock elm timbers. The ballast is cast iron and the decks, formed from pine with glass-fibre sheathing.

Originally built in 1953 by Elkins of Christchurch. Over the last five years the boat has undergone an extensive refit, with over 3,000 dedicated man hours and much expense invested.

There are too many details to itemize although to give a flavour of the attention to detail, here are a few examples.

The Columbian pine mast and boom have been stripped clean of weathered varnish, all fittings removed, re-galvanized , eight coats of varnish applied prior to re-stepping.

Volvo 2010C engine removed, together with controls, fuel tank and exhaust systems, and fresh water cooling systems. New engine beds and athwartships floors installed in oak, engine serviced and overhauled, new flexible mountings fitted and engine reinstalled complete with controls, new exhaust system and cooling system.

Steel plate rudder replaced with new hot-dipped galvanized blade, stock tube and heal bearing. New stainless steel fabricated tiller bracket fitted to the original varnished oak tiller.

Full condition survey conducted in July 2022. please note, paper survey can be made available on viewing the vessel.
